Like all Americans (we assume), we love brightly colored sparklers, loud bottle-rockets, and zinging fireworks of all types. (Whether or not our neighbors appreciate them as much heading into the wee hours of the morning, we can’t say, but we sure can’t get enough of ‘em!)
With another 4th of July upon us, as we collectively come out of our caves and shake off a year of isolation and quarantine, we have reason to believe this one will take the proverbial cake, and go down in history books as a year symbolized by freedom.
So let’s talk celebrations!
First off, remember that some Covid restrictions are still in place, so make sure to follow the latest local news to stay updated. The best source is our own local news network, WRGZ.
Gatherings, barbecues, and parties may be smaller this year, and that’s okay! We suggest you surround yourself with the people closest to you, the ones you’ve missed the most over the past year, or just the ones who make the best competitive lawn bowling partners.
Masking and distancing guidelines are becoming more of a personal liberty now, which means that you can feel free to mask up if you want to!
“2020, amiright?” has already reached that coveted cliché status. For good reason: some went for a year or more without hugging a family member. Some were quarantined alone. There are nurses and doctors who didn't leave their posts for months for the greater good of our community.
Conclusion: 2020 was a challenge.
But challenge is no match for Vidler’s!
You probably know we’ve been located on Main St. in East Aurora since the year 1930, which means that we opened our doors the year after the start of the Great Depression.
(For some historically accurate perspective: when we first opened our doors, we needed a ‘no T-Rexes allowed’ sign for the door. Which reminds me, I think we’ve still got that around here somewhere…)
And - spoiler alert - we got through it!
So when a global pandemic came knocking on our door, we knew we could get through this challenge, too. What was our secret? Same as it always has been: knowing that family, friends, and community are the most important things of all, and that rubber chickens and whoopie cushions are the very-close-second most important things of all. (It’s science.)
Now, the only question is...
As the largest 5&10 in the world, it’s safe to say that however you choose to celebrate your Independence Day this year, we’ve got what you need to make it perfect.
Having a barbecue?
We’ve got stuff for that.
Planning backyard games?
We’ve got those, too.
Gifting cheeky knick-knacks to welcome your family & friends back from social exile?
We’ve got just the thing.
Don’t forget that while we may not be completely out of the woods yet, we’ve made it through the worst of it - and we’ve made it through together! If that’s not a reason to celebrate, we don’t know what is. Or what to do with all these noise-makers.
Enjoy your family this holiday season. Enjoy your barbecues, parties, get-togethers. Share a hot-dog with your neighbor, drink some cold beverages, enjoy the fireworks, and light up those sparklers.
Whatever you’re planning, stop in to Vidler’s to pick up what you’re missing, or call us to find out what you need. Just don’t wait until the last minute! We’ll be closed on the 4th of July to enjoy the day with our families, and we want you to do the same!
From all of us at Vidler’s, have a wonderful, safe, and happy Independence Day!
