We’re proud of the fact that we’ve been in business for 94 consecutive years, with the third generation of the family now running the store. We’ve weathered the ups and downs of the local and national economies, wars, competition from national chain ‘big box’ stores and the on-line sales giants, blizzards and Covid. And who knows what AI will bring to small, independent retailers like us.
One thing we know is that those large stores -- whether in physical or on-line form -- can’t be a part of the community like we have been. That is something that we are extremely proud of, and that was recognized recently when we were added to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry. Nominated by our State Senator, Patrick Gallivan, there were several criteria to be met, including being able to document our impact on, and contribution to our community.
Our hometown of East Aurora and greater Western New York has supported us all these years through thick and thin, and we’d like to think that we have given back. Like all small businesses, we support school and little league teams; sponsor plays, musicals and special events; are a part of, and contribute to longtime village traditions – the Sidewalk Sale, Carolcade, Fireworks and more – and help out the many requests from non-profits and individuals with gift certificates for their charity auctions and drives. And on the lighter side, we’re often the local clearing house for village rumors and gossip!
We’re honored to have received the recognition from the state, and at the same time, a resolution from our Erie County Legislator, Lindsay Lorigo, in conjunction with “Family Owned and Operated Business Day” for our “invaluable contributions to the community and economy.”
Proud to be a part of East Aurora’s community and history – thank you!
