While we think Vidler’s 5 & 10 is an attraction all to itself and worth a trip to Western New York, the entire region is gaining national recognition for its combination of beautiful natural scenery and historic architecture and fine arts. The world famous Niagara Falls is only 45 minutes from East Aurora, and just 45 minutes the other way is a lesser known but almost as spectacular a natural wonder, Letchworth State Park – “the Grand Canyon of the East.” The rolling hills and farmlands of Western New York offer outdoor recreation in 4 distinct seasons: a colorful spring, pleasant summer, spectacular autumn foliage and yes, it’s supposed to snow here – that’s why we call it winter!
The city of Buffalo is receiving renewed critical acclaim for its many turn-of-the-century historic buildings; including several by Frank Lloyd Wright and his recently restored Darwin D. Martin House complex. The city park system was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted – the father of American landscape architecture. Complemented by a thriving arts and theater scene, Buffalo is becoming known for more than chicken wings and snow… The Washington Post called Buffalo “a hip center of arts and performances.” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution told its readers “the architecture treasures of Buffalo must be seen.”
